over the last two weeks The Dallas Cowboys have split their last two games Color Rush Byron Jones Jersey , and in the NFL thatís generally considered a win. Itís an 8-8 league, as most would say.In that stretch of time some things have looked good, some things have looked bad, and the decision-making on critical fourth downs has recently been put under the microscope. These are some rocky waters.Much of the debate these two weeks, heck all season and then some, has centered around the quarterback of the Cowboys. Dak Prescott has had a few moments where he shined (J.J. Watt might agree) and heís had times where heís played quite poorly. This is never considered a win. While Dallas has a win to show for these last two weeks itís worth noting that in both of them weíve seen Dak make some terrible decisions. Iím not talking about more detailed things like his footwork or arm mechanics, this is basic stuff concerning field position and clock management that every quarterback (every player really) should know.3rd quarter, 3rd and long, Dak takes a sack against DetroitThe Cowboys, then leading by three, faced a third and almost impossible from the Detroit 34-yard line early on in the second half last week. Weíve come to learn and feel confident that this is in range for Brett Maher so most Cowboys fans were hoping to double the lead.Dak Prescott did the unforgivable in situations like this, he took a sack. While trying to make something happen the quarterback bounced behind the pocket and lost a huge chunk of yardage Color Rush Chidobe Awuzie Jersey , knocking the Cowboys out of field goal range. That cost the team three points.Youíve got to know when to throw it awayAlmost a full quarter after Dak Prescott took a sack, he yet again failed to throw the ball away. To be fair this error is the most forgivable of the ones weíre discussing as the ďlossĒ on it was minimal, but the point still stands. On first down at midfield we see Dak Prescott scramble and get to his right. He is on the same side of the field as the chains with them right in front of his face. When he gets near out-of-bounds instead of throwing the ball away and living for another down he tries to run despite the obvious difficult ahead of him. He actually loses yardage.Let me be clear in saying that this is hardly the most flagrant offense against a quarterback, but the fact remains that itís a clear misunderstanding of the field position for Dak. The Cowboys won this game, but for all we know that lost yardage could have been pivotal. The point is that you have to avoid negative plays and he literally ran into one when it could have been easily avoided.Dak Prescott saved the Texans a timeout in regulation that could have been costlyObviously the game in Houston went to overtime, Jason Garrett chose to punt, and you know the rest. Not to live in a land of ifs, but the game could have ended well before that thanks to an egregious mistake by Dak Prescott. The Cowboys were facing a 3rd and 17 on their side of the field and elected to take the clock down to the two-minute warning. Maybe they used this time to plan, maybe they used it to talk about life, who knows, the point is simply that Dallas had a great amount of time to discuss what was to happen next. What we saw did not look well-planned or thought out. What we saw was Dak Prescott make his reads and choose to run instead. To be clear thatís a decision that Dak should make if he feels confident with it, but a very important qualifier has to exist on top of it for him to stay in bounds. In the moment the Texans had one remaining timeout and as mentioned we were past the two-minute warning. Dak Prescott runs Color Rush Joe Looney Jersey , dances, and gets out of bounds. Dak literally conserved the Texans their lone clock-stoppage right before handing them the ball with them only needing a field goal to win the game. You absolutely cannot do that. Dakís flub became moot as DeMarcus Lawrence and Jaylon Smith helped get the ball back to the Cowboys in the gameís final seconds courtesy of Xavier Woods (ironically the Dak mistake then benefited the Cowboys), but again it should be noted that Prescott handed Houston an incredible gift with a conscious mind.Everybody makes mistakes, but Dak is making some basic onesNobody is going to act like thereís a single quarterback in NFL history that hasnít ever done something that he shouldnít. Mistakes happen. Some would argue theyíre normal. Elite quarterbacks certainly make them.Dak Prescott is not an elite quarterback, though. Dak is trying with all of his might to be good right now, and heís not getting a whole lot of help, but heís also not helping himself. Things like knowing not to take a sack that will knock you out of field goal range or to stay in bounds to force the Texans to call a timeout should maybe be told to any quarterback by their coaching staff, but they absolutely have to be known by the quarterback himself. Dak Prescott is a third-year player now who has seen a lot of situations. He has to know these things.Mistakes may be common, they may happen to everybody, but right now Dak Prescott canít afford to make them. He definitely canít afford to make such basic ones. With Blake Bortles piling up passing numbers like never before in his career, Jacksonville coach Doug Marrone wants to get the Jaguars back to running.Dak Prescott, Jason Garrett and the Dallas Cowboys have the opposite issue heading into a Sunday matchup with familiar faces on both sidelines.Bortles has a chance to be just the fifth NFL quarterback with at least 375 yards passing in three straight games after establishing a career high in consecutive weeks. He also had a career-high four interceptions last week Color Rush Taco Charlton Jersey , which helped explain a 30-14 loss to undefeated Kansas City. There was something else that bothered Marrone against the Chiefs: a season-low 17 rushing attempts to go with Bortles' personal high of 61 throws. The only other game this season with fewer than 20 carries? The other loss for Jacksonville (3-2), against Tennessee."That's not the way we want to play," Marrone said. "I probably should have done a better job of that. I just felt like we were pressing and trying to make plays. I just think overall I have to do a better job of managing that."Of course, the Jaguars have some pretty good reasons to tilt toward the pass. Running back Leonard Fournette will be out for the fourth time in six games with a hamstring injury. Jacksonville is on its third left tackle in Josh Walker. The Jaguars signed two-time All-Pro running back Jamaal Charles this week and expect him to contribute behind T.J. Yeldon against the Cowboys (2-3)."I think we were pretty fortunate last year as far as staying healthy," Bortles said. "This year we haven't been quite as lucky. These next three weeks, not looking ahead or anything, but to get to the bye week are important with the amount of guys we have down."The Cowboys aren't looking for 375 yards passing from Prescott because they have the NFL rushing leader in Ezekiel Elliott. But inefficiency throwing is the biggest reason Dallas has a losing record and questions inside and outside the locker room about play-calling.The bright side for Dallas: another home game. The Cowboys are trying to win the first three at home for the first time at 9-year-old AT&T Stadium. The worst of the offensive issues have been on the road."You just keep banging away," Garrett said. "There's a lot of good things we're doing offensively. We have to continue to build on those. There's plenty of things we've got to shore up and we'll try to address those things as directly as we can."Things to know about the first meeting between these teams since the Cowboys made their first regular-season trip to London four years ago:FAMILIAR FACESDallas receiver Allen Hurns, who questioned the play call on one of Prescott's interceptions but said he wasn't second-guessing offensive coordinator Scott Linehan, spent his first four years in Jacksonville before signing with the Cowboys in free agency this past offseason.Safety Barry Church, in his second year with the Jaguars, was a cornerstone for the Dallas defense the last four of his seven seasons with the Cowboys. Both will be facing their former team for the first time."It's just like playing against your brother http://www.authenticsdallascowboys.com/cheap-antwaun-woods-jersey ," said Hurns, who had his first touchdown with the Cowboys in last week's overtime loss to Houston but has just eight catches. "You don't want to lose. I don't want to say this game is bigger than any other game, but for sure one I want to win."SPEAKING OF FAMILIARCharles was a standout at Texas and won a national championship with the Longhorns as a freshman during the 2005 season. The former Chiefs star whose career has been marred by knee injuries lives near Houston. The 31-year-old had been unsigned after spending last season as a backup in Denver. His return will be his first visit to the home of the Cowboys, a week after he was in Dallas watching the Texas-Oklahoma rivalry."I'm ready to get the dust off these cleats," he said.DEFENSE FIRSTThe Jaguars rode their defense to the AFC championship game last season. The Cowboys are relying on that unit more than usual with the difficulties in the passing game and an offensive line unsettled because of the absence of four-time Pro Bowl center Travis Frederick, who is battling a nerve condition. Both teams are in the top five in scoring defense and bottom seven in scoring offense."It's going to be a battle among the defenses," Dallas defensive lineman Tyrone Crawford said. "That's the way I'm looking at it."
